Horseshoe Crab
by Colleen Messing

As the tide hits low, from deep swift current, to a sweet calm flow, out from the inlet comes a creature from below.

He's been around for more than one million years, and got to meet some of our largest fears.

He's got a shell oh so round, and in the spring they all abound, on Americas shores, hopefully forever more.

A prehistoric creature who's with us still, he breathes in the ocean using his gills.

They crawl onto the beach to lay millions of eggs, and to swim or walk they use their amazing legs.

Like the deep ocean their blood is so blue, and scientists use this to help me and you.

So that is some info on our little friend, hopefully he will remain with us up till the end!
