I am a horseshoe crab in the bay
But I am not a crab in an ordinary way Of course I have pinchers, but ten legs too
I also have eyes-and quite a few
What makes me unusual is my tail and my shell
I am related to a spider as well
My tail is long and has a point
It is connected to my bowl-like shell by a joint
My species have been around for many, many days
But we are used in several different ways
Scientists use our blue blood to help cure humans that are ill
Birds feed on our eggs to get their fill
So as we are finding,
Our number is declining
But there is a way to help that I will teach So you will know what to do if you see one of us stranded on the beach
It is a saying used by women and men
The saying is "Just flip 'em"
So hurry up and give it a try
Before all of us horseshoe crabs die.
